  • Introduction

Elastography is a newly technique used in assessing tissue stiffness in comparison with healthy tissue. The applications of the technique are many: from the diffuse liver fibrosis, autoimmune thyroiditis, to correct identification of nodular masses. The degree of diffuse fibrosis is used to reduce the unnecessary diagnostic biopsies, and tends to replace Fibroscan evaluation. Swear wave elastography is used in this field.

Cancer is a hot topic in almost all medical fields. Strain elastography is a useful tool in identifying malignant nodular masses localized in breast, thyroid, pancreas, lymph nodes, liver and prostate. There is still no consensus regarding the place of elastography in the algorithm of cancer diagnostic. The use of elastography is reduced the number of unnecessary punctions and biopsies.

Further research and publication are needed in order to place the elastography in the recommended guidelines, in respect to the excellent reports form the general literature.

This Special Issus wants to gather as much information as possible regarding elastography in order to contribute to the change in integrating elastography in the diagnostic of nodular and diffuse diseases.

All contributors are more than welcome in this Special Issue.
